Question

Describe the following pattern's rule.
16, 11, 6, 1

  1. Add 5
  2. Subtract 3
  3. Subtract 5
  4. Subtract 6

hintHint:

A set of numbers that are related to each other by a common rule i.e. a repeated arrangement of numbers is called as a pattern.
To identify the pattern in the given set of numbers, we find the relationship between 2 consecutive numbers.

The correct answer is: Subtract 5

    GIVEN-
    1st term = 16, 2nd term = 11, third term = 6 and 4th term = 1
    TO FIND-
Pattern in the given set of numbers
    SOLUTION-
    2nd term - 1st term = 11 - 16 = -5
    3rd term - 2nd term = 6 - 11 = -5
    4th term - 3rd term = 1 - 6 = -5
We observe that the difference between each consecutive term in the given series is -5.
Hence, we subtract 5 from each term to get the next term in the series.
    FINAL ANSWER-
Option 'c' i.e. 'Subtract 5' is the correct answer to the given question.
