Question
The value of 774 ÷ 3 is ________.
- 220
- 230
- 238
- 258
Hint:
One can do general division to obtain a solution. But, to be professional one should use area model to obtain solution for division and multiplication of numbers.
There are many methods to perform division, some of them are:
1. Division using subtraction (general method)
2.Using Multiplication and remainders (Area model)
3.Long Division(In complicated case) and so on.
choose any one to solve.
The correct answer is: 258
In Mathematics, an area model is a rectangular model used for calculation of a division and multiplication of numbers. Here, we define quotient and divisor as length and width of a rectangle.
METHOD: One can do division in area model through blocks. we first try to divide the first most number of a dividend with the divisor and replace rest of the places of the dividend as 0 and so on till we get the number that is less than divisor as a remainder.
Answer: As we seen the method for division of numbers using area model then, Our goal is to find 774÷3 hence, let us try to evaluate through blocks of a area model.
In block representation since only dividend changes I only updated dividend. Divisor remains constant in area model.
Hence, Area model gives area as: 200 50 8
774
174
24
174
24
0
Hence, We have got total area as 258.
Answer for 774÷3 ==258.
Area model block diagram size depends on number of digits in divisor and dividend. One can obtain number of blocks as product of number of digits in divisor to the number of digits in the dividend.
Hence, In our Question we have got 32= 6 blocks.
Block table creation: 200 50 8
774 | 174 | 24 |
174 | 24 | 0 |
