Question
A baseball team scores the same number pf runs in each of the first four innings. After that the team did not score a run for the rest of the game which lasts 9 innings. Let X represents the innings of the game , and y represents total number of runs. Sketch the graph of the situation above. And How would the graph change if the innings in which the team scores runs changes ?
Hint:
Figure out slope of the line with respect to information given.
The correct answer is: for first 4 innings there will be positive/ negative slopes rather than 0 as it was in the case given.
SOL – Let innings of the game be x
Total no of runs = y
Acc. to the question, scores are same for the first four innings
Let score, y = a which is a constant
Graph will be a line parallel to x – axis
Then, for next 5 innings score, y = 0
There will be a sudden drop/decrease from y = a to y = 0 , i.e., line will be parallel to y – axis and then again graph will become constant for next 5 innings i.e., y = 0, a line parallel to x – axis
If the innings in which the team scores runs changes then the graph will no longer have a constant i.e., for first 4 innings there will be positive/ negative slopes rather than 0 as it was in the case given.
