Question

A florist is making regular bouquets and mini bouquets. The Florist has 118 roses and 226 peonies to use in the bouquets. How many of each type of bouquet can the florist make ?

hintHint:

Frame the equations and then solve.

The correct answer is: total number of mini bouquets that can be made from 118 roses and 226 peonies = 39 (shortest number among 39 and 45)

    Complete step by step solution:
    Total number of roses the florist has = 118
    Total number of peonies the florist has = 226
    Number of roses needed to make 1 regular bouquet = 5
    Number of peonies needed to make 1 regular bouquet = 11
    Number of roses needed to make 1 mini bouquet = 3
    Number of peonies needed to make 1 mini bouquet = 5
    Total number of roses needed for regular bouquets that can be made from 118 roses
    equals 118 over 5 equals 23
    And total number of peonies needed for regular bouquets that can be made from 226 peonies =  226 over 11 equals 20
    Hence, total number of regular bouquets that can be made from 118 roses and 226
    peonies = 20 (shortest number among 20 and 23)
    Total number of roses needed for mini bouquets that can be made from 118 roses
    equals 118 over 3 equals 39
    And total number of peonies needed for mini bouquets that can be made from 226
    peonies = 226 over 5 equals 45
    Hence, total number of mini bouquets that can be made from 118 roses and 226
    peonies = 39 (shortest number among 39 and 45)
