A ladder 13 m long rests against the vertical wall. If the foot of the ladder is 5m from the foot of the wall. Find the distance of the other end of the ladder from the ground?

orem states that “In a right-angled triangle,  the square of the hypotenuse side is equal to the sum of squares of the other two sides“. The sides of this triangle have been named Perpendicular, Base and Hypotenuse. Here, the hypotenuse is the longest side, as it is opposite to the angle 90°.
If a is the perpendicular, b is the base, and c is the hypotenuse, then according to the definition, the Pythagoras Theorem formula is given as
c2= a2 + b2
 

The correct answer is: Hence, the distance of the other end of the ladder from the ground is 12 m.


    Here, Length of perpendicular(h) = 5 m
    Length of hypotenuse(d) = 13 m
    Let’s say that the distance of the other end of the ladder from the ground is b.
    Using Pythagoras theorem

    d2 = h2 + b2

    132 = 52 + b2

    b2 = 132 - 52
    straight d equals square root of 144 equals 12 straight m

    Hence, the distance of the other end of the ladder from the ground is 12 m.
