Question
If the domain of a relation is the set of whole numbers between 2.5 and 7.5, and the range contains 6 different values. Is the relation a function? Explain.
Hint:
An ordered pair is represented as (INPUT, OUTPUT)
A function from set A to the set B is a relation which associates every element of a set A to unique element of set B.
The correct answer is: the given relation is not a function
We have given that the domain of a relation is the set of whole numbers between 2.5 and 7.5
Then domain = {3,4,5,6,7}
And the range contains 6 different values
This concludes that any one member from the domain set will have two image in the range set
But in a function one member in the domain set cannot have two images in the co-domain set.
Therefore, the given relation is not a function
