Question

Consider the situation shown in figure. Water open parentheses mu subscript w end subscript equals fraction numerator 4 over denominator 3 end fraction close parentheses is filled in a breaker upto a height of 10 cm. A plane mirror fixed at a height of 5 cm from the surface of water. Distance of image from the mirror after reflection from it of an object O at the bottom of the beaker is

  1. 15 cm
  2. 12.5 cm
  3. 7.5 cm
  4. 10 cm

The correct answer is: 12.5 cm

From figure it is clear that object appears to be raised by fraction numerator 10 over denominator 4 end fraction c m open parentheses 2.5 c m close parentheses
    Hence distance between mirror and O ´ equals 5 plus 7.5 equals 12.5 c m

So final image will be formed at 12.5 cm behind the plane mirror.
