Question
Solve 5(2x − 8) = x + 14. Write a reason for each step.
Hint:
using the additive property and subtraction property ,division property on both sides .solve for x.
The correct answer is: x = 6
Ans:- x = 6
Given ,5(2x − 8) = x + 14.
By left distributive property 10x - 40 = x +14
Adding 40 on both sides by additive property of equality both sides remain equal.
10x - 40 + 40 = x +14 + 40
10x = x + 54
Subtract x from both sides by subtraction property of equality both sides remains equal.
10x - x = x + 54 - x
9x = 54
Dividing 9 by division property of equality both sides remains equal.
∴x = 6
