Question
The endpoints of 𝐴𝐵 are A (100, -111) and B
(222, 525). A reflection of 𝐴𝐵 results in the image 𝑋𝑌, with coordinates X (-100, -111) and Y (-222, 525). Tell which axis 𝐴𝐵 was reflected in and write the coordinate rule for the reflection.
Hint:
In reflection, mirror image is formed.
The correct answer is: y – axis is the line of reflection and (x , y) → (- x , y) is the coordinate rule
It is given that A (100, - 111) X (- 100, - 111) and
B (222, 525) → Y (- 222 , 525)
i.e. y – coordinate is same and x – coordinate is negative of the original ordinate.
We know that (x , y) → (- x , y) is the coordinate rule for the reflection when y – axis is the line of reflection.
y – axis is the line of reflection and (x , y) → (- x , y) is the coordinate rule
