Question
The sum of three consecutive integers is 132.What are the three integers ?
Hint:
Integers refer to all whole numbers (Not fractions) and their opposites i.e. all positive numbers, all negative numbers and zero.
Consecutive Integers are the numbers that on a number line, come one after another and the difference between any two consecutive numbers is 1.
The correct answer is: The 3 consecutive integers whose sum is 132 are- 43, 44 & 45
Step-by-step solution:-
Let the 3 consecutive integers be 'x', 'x+1' and 'x+2'.
As per the given condition, the sum of these 3 integers is 132.
∴ Adding the 3 integers, we get-
x + (x+1) + (x+2) = 132
∴ x + x + x = 132 - 1 - 2 ............................................. (Taking all variables and constants on either sides of the equation)
∴ 3x = 129
∴ x = .................................................. (Dividing both sides by 3)
∴ x = 43
∴ First Consecutive integer = x = 43 ......................................................... (Equation i)
Substituting the value of x in the other 2 integers, we get-
∴ Second consecutive integer = x + 1
∴ Second consecutive integer = 43 + 1 ....................................................................... (From Equation i)
∴ Second consecutive integer = 44
∴ Third consecutive integer = x + 2
∴ Third consecutive integer = 43 + 2 ....................................................................... (From Equation i)
∴ Third consecutive integer = 45
Final Answer:-
∴ The 3 consecutive integers whose sum is 132 are- 43, 44 & 45.
