Reading – Find the Major Events of a Story after Reading It Visually
Children like to read stories.
There are stories with pictures and without pictures.
Pictures in Stories
The picture in a story gives us an idea about the events that happen in it.
Pictures give clues, shows expressions, and helps us to know where the story takes place.
Pictures make it easier for the readers to understand.
Reading a Story
When we read a story, we will be able to know
- What/who is the story about?
- When does the story take place?
- Where does the story take place?
Events
Events are the things or actions that happen in a story.
The major events in a story are classified as:
- Beginning (Characters and setting)
- Middle (Problem)
- End (Solution)
Beginning
The beginning of a story tells us about the characters and the setting.
The people, animals or any other creatures in the story are called characters.
The setting of the story describes when and where the story takes place.
Middle
The middle part describes what is happening to the characters.
There will be a problem in the story and the middle part tells us about it.
It can be a challenge or issue that the characters want to change or solve.
End
The end shows us how the character solves the problem.
For Example:
Jack and Tom went out to play on a Friday evening.
They were playing hide and seek in the backyard of Jack’s house.
While playing Jack stumbled on a stone and fell – down. His forehead got hurt.
Both Tom and Jack panicked. They feared that their parents would scold them.
On seeing Jack’s injury his mother cleaned the wound and applied some medicine. She told them that it is a small injury, and they need not worry.
Both Jack and Tom were relieved, and Tom went home.
From the story, we can identify the following:
Characters: Jack and Tom.
Setting: They played in the backyard of Jack’s house (where) on a Friday evening (when).
Problem: Jack stumbled on a stone and got hurt.
Solution: Jack’s mother cleaned and applied medicine on his wound. She told them not to worry.
