Question
A ferries wheel can accommodate 60 people in 24 minutes. Number of people the ferry can accommodate in 2 hours is __________.
- 250
- 300
- 350
- 270
Hint:
In the question , we are given about no of people a Ferris Wheel can accommodate in 24 minutes. It is 60. We have to find out how many people it can accommodate in 2 hours. From the first data we can find out the number of people it can accommodate in one minute by taking the ratio. Using this value we can find the number of people it can accommodate in two hours.
The correct answer is: 300
The Ferris Wheel can accommodate 60 people in 24 minutes.
We have to find the ratio of no of people and time. Then we will get the rate at which the Ferris wheel is accommodating people. It will gives the value of no of people per minute. The rate will be constant as Ferris Wheel has constant number of seats. So we will use this value to find the number of people in 2 hours.
So the equation becomes
We have to be careful that rate is number of people per minute
To find the number of people in 2 hours, we will first convert 2 hours in minutes.
2 hours = 2 × 60 minutes
2 hours = 120 minutes
So the equation of rate is
We will rearrange this equation for no of people, as we have to find number of people in 2 hours
For this we will multiply both sides by Time
Time × Rate = Number of people.
Number of people = Time × Rate
Substituting the values we have found
Number of people = 120 ×
Number of people = 20 × 15
Number of people = 300
Therefore, number of people a Ferris will can accommodate in 2 hours is 300.
We have to be careful about the units. We have to make the units same before further operation.
