Question

Find the area of the following trapezoid (Unit is square m.):

  1. 108 × m2
  2. 252 × m2
  3. 202 × m2
  4. 260 × m2

The correct answer is: 252 × m2

    252 m sq
Area of a trapezoid = ½ x sum of parallel sides x distance between them.
In this question, the distance between them is not given. Since this is an isosceles trapezoid, we can calculate the length of the height.
Lets drop a perpendicular to the 26 m base side to make a right angled triangle.
    Base of the triangle = (26-16)/2 = 5 m
    Hypotenuse of the triangle = 13 m
    Height of the triangle = √(13* 13 – 5*5)= 12 m
    Area of the trapezoid = 1/2x(16 + 26 ) x 12 = 252 sq m
