Question

Find the mean, median, mode and range.
35, 17, 29, 48, 36, 10, 5, 23, 5, 17

  1. Mean: 22.5, median: 20, mode: 5 range: 43
  2. Mean: 22.5, median: 20, mode: 5, 17 range: 40
  3. Mean: 22, median: 20, mode: 5, 17 range: 43
  4. Mean: 22.5, median: 20, mode: 5, 17 range: 43

hintHint:

Mean is the average of the given numbers and is calculated by dividing the sum of given numbers by the total number of numbers.

The median is the middle number in a sorted, ascending or descending list of numbers.

The mode is the value that appears most frequently in a data set.

Range = maximum value - minimum value .

The correct answer is: Mean: 22.5, median: 20, mode: 5, 17 range: 43

Arranging the data in the increasing order we get,

     5, 5, 10, 17, 17, 23, 29, 35, 36, 48

    Maximum value = 48 ,minimum value = 5

    Range = maximum value - minimum value  = 48 - 5 = 43.

Mean =fraction numerator 5 plus space 5 plus space 10 plus space 17 plus space 17 plus space 23 plus space 29 plus space 35 plus space 36 plus space 48 over denominator 10 end fraction space equals space 225 over 10 space equals space 22.5

Mode is 5,17 as both repeated by a maximum number of times (= 2).

The median of the data with 10 elements (i.e even) is the average of the 5th and 6th elements.

Median = fraction numerator 17 plus 23 over denominator 2 end fraction space equals space 40 over 2 space equals space 20
    So, The mean is 22.5, median: 20, mode:  5, 17 range:  43
