Question

Find the mean, median, mode(s), and range of the following data.
5, 3, 2, 6, 5, 2, 5

  1. Mean: 5, median: 5, mode: 5, range: 4
  2. Mean: 4, median: 5, mode: 5, range: 4
  3. Mean: 4, median: 6, mode: 5, range: 4
  4. Mean: 4, median: 5, mode: 5, range: 3

hintHint:

Mean is the average of the given numbers and is calculated by dividing the sum of given numbers by the total number of numbers.

The median is the middle number in a sorted, ascending or descending list of numbers.

The mode is the value that appears most frequently in a data set.

Range = maximum value - minimum value .

The correct answer is: Mean: 4, median: 5, mode: 5, range: 4

    Arranging the data in the increasing order we get.

    5, 3, 2, 6, 5, 2, 5

    2, 2, 3, 5, 5, 5, 6

    Maximum value = 6 ,minimum value = 2

    Range = maximum value - minimum value  = 6 - 2 = 4.

    Mean = fraction numerator space space 2 plus 2 plus 3 plus 5 plus 5 plus 5 plus 6 over denominator 7 end fraction space equals space 28 over 7 space equals space 4

    Mode is 5 as it repeats a maximum number of times ( = 3).

    The median of the data with 7(3+1+3) elements (7 is odd) is the 4th element.

    Median = 5
    Therefore, The mean is 4, median: 5, mode: 5, range: 4
