Question
For a science project, each student collected 6 insects. The teacher placed the students in groups of 3. Find the total insects each group collects.
- 9
- 18
- 24
- 27
Hint:
There are four operations in mathematics which we can use while solving a problem, one of them is multiplication. Multiplication is the repeated addition of the same number a number of times. It is also known as a method of finding product of two or more numbers by multiplying them. Here, we have to find the solve the word problem using multiplication.
The correct answer is: 18
In the question it is given that,
Number of insects each student =6
Number of students in each group=3
Here, we have to find the total number of insects collected by each group.
Total number of insects collected by each group = 6×3 = 18.
So, each group collects 18 insects.
Therefore, the correct option is b, i.e., 18.
For simple multiplication we have to remember the multiplication table of one-digit numbers and for two-digit number we can find it using the multiplication table of one-digit numbers. Here, we have to find the product of one digit number.
