Question

Jack wants to know how much water a sphere can hold with a radius of 8 cm. Find the volume. Use 3.14 for pi.

  1. 83.6 cm³
  2. 2143.6 cm³
  3. 2514.3 cm³
  4. 2220.4 cm³

hintHint:

Here, in this problem, the radius of the sphere is given. We are to find the quantity of water that the sphere can hold. To calculate the quantity of water, we have to find the volume of this sphere and for this, we have to use the formula for calculating the volume of a sphere with a given radius. The formula for finding the volume V of a sphere of radius r is V equals 4 over 3 πr cubed.

The correct answer is: 2143.6 cm³

Given that the radius of the sphere is 8 cm.
We have to find the volume of this sphere.
We know that the volume  of a sphere of radius r is V equals 4 over 3 πr cubed.
So, for r equals 8 cm, we get (put straight pi equals 3.14): V equals 4 over 3 cross times 3.14 cross times 8 cubed equals 2143.57 space text cm end text cubed.
Therefore, the volume of water that the given sphere can hold is approximately, 2143.6 space text cm end text cubed.

Note that the value of straight pi is taken as 3.14 which is an approximate value of straight pi. Though it is not exact, we can use this to find the value of a mathematical expression. We can take the value of straight pi as 22 over 7 also.
