Question

Kim’s mother wants to make 3 ribbons of equal length.  She has 21 inches of ribbon.  Find each ribbon’s length.

  1. 12 inches
  2. 3 inches
  3. 7 inches
  4. 5 inches

hintHint:

Division in maths is the process of breaking a number up into equal parts, and finding out how many equal parts can be made.

The correct answer is: 7 inches

Here, we have to find each ribbon's length.
    Ribbon's length = 21 inches
Number of ribbons, kim's mother want to make = 3
    We simply divide 21 by 3 .
    21 ÷ 3 = 7
Therefore, each ribbon length = 7 inches.
Hence, the correct option is (c).

We know that division is the repetitive subtraction. We have to subtract 3 from 21 till we get 0. So, we need to subtract it for 7 times.
