Question
Solve the following using the substitution method and find the value of x and y:
-x – 4y =16
-5x -5y = 5
- 4, -5
- -4, 5
- 4, 5
- -4, -5
Hint:
The linear equation in two variable is an equation with two variable and degree one.
The correct answer is: 4, -5
Step 1 of 1:
We have given two equations
-x – 4y = 16.......(i)
-5x – 5y = 5........(ii)
Now, we will rewrite the first equation,
- x = 16 + 4y
x = - 4y – 16
Step 2 of 2:
Now substitute this value of x in equation (ii)
-5x – 5y = 5
-5(-4y – 16) – 5y = 5
20y + 80 – 5y = 5
15y + 80 = 5
15y = -75
y = -5
Now, Substitute this value of y in any of equation and get the value of x.
x = -4(-5) – 16
x = 20 – 16
=4
In the substitution method, we first write one variable in the form of another variable.
