The perimeter of a room is 48 feet, and the ratio of its length to its width is 5:3. Find the length and width of the room.

    Given Perimeter of room = 48 feet
    Ratio of fraction numerator l e n g t h over denominator w i d t h end fraction space equals 5 over 3
    Let length of room = 5x and width of room = 3x

    We know that Perimeter = 2 (a + b)
    where
    “a” is the length of the rectangle
    “b” is the breadth/ width of the rectangle
    48 = 2 ( a + b)
    48 = 2 ( 5x + 3x)
    48 = 2 (8x)
    16x = 48
    x = 3
    Length of room = 5x = 5 (3) = 15 feet and breadth = 3 (3) = 9 feet
    Thus the length and width of the room is 15 feet and 9 feet respectively.
