Question
There are 6 groups of kids in which 3 boys and 2 girls are present in each of the groups. Choose the expression that represents the situation.
- 6 × 3 + 2
- (6 × 3) × 2
- (6 + 3) × (6 + 2)
- 6 (3 + 2)
Hint:
Distributive property is the law in which we can solve problems which are in the form a(b+c). To solve this type of problem we just have to multiply a with b and then c which can be written as ab+ ac and then finally add them. It is one of the common formula which is used to solve problems. Here, we have to solve the problem using distributive property.
The correct answer is: 6 (3 + 2)
In the question it is given that,
The number of boys = 3
The number of girls = 2
We have to find the numerical expression that represents the given situation.
So, the total number of boys and girls = 3+2
Total number of groups = 6
So, the numerical expression will be 6(3+2).
Therefore, the correct option is d, i.e., 6(3+2).
In distributive property, when a factor is to be multiplied with the sum of two numbers, we do not directly add the two numbers and then multiply the sum with the factor. Rather, we multiply both the numbers with the factor differently and then add the multiplication value.
