Equation of the line passing though the point of intersection of the lines x + 2y – 3 = 0 and x
+ y –2 = 0 and also through the point (2, 1) is
- y = 1
- x = 1
- y = 0
- x = 0
Hint:
We have to find the line passing through point of intersection of two lines and given point. Using the lines of the equation, we will find the point of intersection of two lines. Then we will find the equation of line with the help of given line.
The correct answer is: y = 1
The given point is (2, 1)
The equation of two lines are as follows:
x + 2y – 3 = 0 …(1)
x + y – 2 = 0 …(2)
We will find the point of intersection of these two lines.
Let’s take the equation of second line and rearrange.
x = - y + 2
Now, we will substitute this equation in (1)
-y + 2 + 2y – 3 = 0
y – 1 = 0
y = 1
We will substitute this value in equation (1) to find the value of x.
x + 2(1) – 3 = 0
x + 2 – 3 = 0
x – 1 = 0
x = 1
The coordinates of point of intersection are (1,1)
As the line passes through point (1,1) and (2,1) we can find the equation of line using these two points.
We will use two point form to solve the question.
The formula of two point form is
Here, x and y are variables
(x1, y1) and (x2,y2) are the points through which line is passing.
Substituting the values
So, the equation of line is y = 1.
