Question

In the figure, 3 lines intersect at point P. If x = 65 and y = 75, what is the value of z?

  1. 140
  2. 80
  3. 40
  4. 20

The correct answer is: 40

    Hint:
Sum of angles on a straight line = 180°.
When two lines intersect each other, 2 pairs of opposite angles are formed called Vertically opposite angles.
Vertically Opposite angles are always equal.
    Step-by-step solution:-
Let the given lines be AD, BG & CF
Now, we know that sum of angles formed on a straight line is 180°
∴ for line AD, (on left hand side) we can say that-
    angle A P B plus angle B P C plus angle C P D equals 180 degree
    therefore space 65 plus angle B P C plus 75 equals 180 degree minus negative negative negative negative negative negative left parenthesis space A s space p e r space g i v e n space i n f o r m a t i o n right parenthesis
therefore angle B P C plus 140 degree equals 180 degree
therefore angle B P C equals 180 degree minus 140 degree
therefore angle B P C equals 40 degree minus negative negative negative negative negative negative negative left parenthesis E q u a t i o n space i right parenthesis
Now, we know that angle B P C & angle F P G are vertically opposite angles formed due to the intersection of lines BG & FC.
    angle B P C equals angle F P G ----------------- (vertically opposite angles)
    ∴ 40° = angle F P G -------------------- (From Equation i)
    i.e. z = 40°
    Final Answer:
Option C i.e. 40 is the correct Option.

A market researcher selected 200 people at random from a group of people who indicated that they liked a certain book. The 200 people were shown a movie based on the book and then asked whether they liked or disliked the movie. Of those surveyed, 95% said they disliked the movie. Which of the following inferences can appropriately be drawn from this survey result?

That is to say, if we sampled this pool, we could not extrapolate that to the entire pool. For example, if you randomly selected twenty students from your class and discovered that 8% of them enjoy chocolate ice cream, this does not imply that 80% of the world enjoys chocolate ice cream. Okay, so then, we know that at least 95 percent of the people who go to the movies will dislike this movie. That's not certain because that's an extrapolation. After all, once again, we only asked two hundred people, so we can ask if everyone who reads the book will dislike the movie.
It is stated that most people who disliked the book will enjoy this movie. That is incorrect because it states that 95% of people opposed the film. That's not correct. Most people who liked the book will dislike the movie. So, that should be D.
