Question
The length of the intercept made by the parabola 2y2 + 6y = 8 – 5x on y-axis is
- 7
- 5
- 3
- 1
Hint:
put x=0 and find values of y .
The correct answer is: 5
y=5
On the y axis, x=0
On replacing this in the eqation , we get
2y2+6y=8
y2+4y-y-4=0
y(y+4)-1(y+4)
y=1,-4
length of intercept = 1-(-4) = 5
the distance between two points on the y axis is just the difference in the y coordinates of the points.
