Question
Four resistors of 100 Ω each are connected in series across a battery of 500 V. What is the amount of current in the circuit?
- 1.25 A
- 200000 A
- 1/ 200000 A
- 20 A
Hint:
Ohm's law states that the voltage in a conductor is directly proportional to the current through it.
i.e. V=IR
The correct answer is: 1.25 A
When four resistors of 100 Ω each are connected in series across a battery of 500 V, the current in the circuit is 1.25 A.
- If the current of 500 V is applied to four resistors, each bears 125 V current.
- The resistance in each resistor is 100 Ω. (RT= R1 + R2 + R3 + R4 = 400 Ω)
- Applying Ohm's law, the current I= V/R is 500/400= 1.25 A
