A circular plot has radius 56 m. A 7 m wide road runs on the inside of the plot around it. Find the area of road.
( Take $straight pi$ = $22 over 7$ )

hint Hint:

Area of the road is the difference of the areas of two circles

The correct answer is: 2310 m2

It id given that radius of the circular plot = 56 m
Area of the outer circle = $straight pi$ r²
= $22 over 7$ × 56²
= 9856 m²
Radius of the inner circle
= Radius of the outer circle – Width of the road
= 56 – 7 = 49 m
Area of the inner circle = p r²
= $22 over 7$ × 49²
= 7546 m²
Area of the road
= Area of the outer circle - Area of the inner circle
= 9856 m² - 7546 m²
= 2310 m²
NOTE – Alterative Method
Area of the road
= Area of the outer circle - Area of the inner circle
= $22 over 7$ × 56² - $22 over 7$ × 49²
= $22 over 7$ × ( 56² – 49²)
= $22 over 7$ × (56 – 49) (56 + 49)
= $22 over 7$ × 7 × 105
= 2310 m²
