Question
Arrange the following numbers in increasing order: 1/2 , 3/4 , 5/6, 3/2, 8/7, 9/4
- 1/2 , 3/2,3/4, 5/6, 8/7, 9/4
- 1/2 , 3/2, 5/6 , 9/4, 8/7, 3/4
- 9/4, 3/2, 3/4, 5/6, 8/7, ½
- 1/2 , 3/4 , 5/6, 8/7, 3/2, 9/4
Hint:
We are given a number sequence. We have to arrange the sequence from least to greatest integer. We can take help of number line to solve the question.
The correct answer is: 1/2 , 3/4 , 5/6, 8/7, 3/2, 9/4
The given sequence is ½, 3/4 , 5/6, 3/2, 8/7, 9/4
The number line is a line on which numbers are placed at equal interval. The center of the number line is zero. It extends in both the direction positive and negative.
The value of integers increases in the right direction. So, the number succeeding the previous number in the right direction is greater.
So, from the given numbers
We will write the ratios in decimal forms by dividing the numerator by denominator.
½ = 0.5
¾ = 0.75
5/6 = 0.83
3/2 =1.5
8/7 = 1.14
9/4 = 2.25
So, the increasing order of the decimal points is
0.5, 0.75, 0.83, 1.14, 1.5, 2.25
½, ¾, 5/6, 8/7, 3/2, 9/4
This increasing order of the numbers.
When we are comparing negative numbers the number with least value is the greater number. The number with higher value is the smaller number.
