Question

Brie designed a carnival game that involves tossing a beanbag into the box shown. In order to win a prize , the beanbag must fall inside the black rectangle . The Probability of winning is equal to the ratio of the area of the black rectangle to the total area of the face of the box shown. Find this probability in simplified form .

hintHint:

The area of a rectangle with length l and breadth b is:
A = lb
We are asked to find the winning probability in simplified form.

The correct answer is: The probability to win is area of the black rectangle: area of the whole box. That is: x / 6(x + 1)

    Step 1 of 3:
    Consider the face of the box. The length and breadth of the box is 3x and x+1 respectively.
    So, the area of the rectangle would be:
    A = lb
    = 3x (x + 1)
    Step 2 of 3:
    Consider the black rectangle. The length and breadth of the figure is x and 1 halfx respectively.
    So, the area of the rectangle would be:
    A = lb
    equals 1 half x left parenthesis x right parenthesis
    equals 1 half x squared
    Step 3 of 3:
    The probability to win is area of the black rectangle: area of the whole box. That is:
    fraction numerator 1 half x squared over denominator 3 x left parenthesis x plus 1 right parenthesis end fraction equals fraction numerator x squared over denominator 6 x left parenthesis x plus 1 right parenthesis end fraction
    equals fraction numerator x over denominator 6 left parenthesis x plus 1 right parenthesis end fraction

    Ratio of two values can be written as, x over y, x:y.

    Write the equation in slope-intercept form of the line that passes through the points (2, 1.5) and (0, 4.5).

    The slope intercept form is a technique for determining a straight line's equation in the coordinate plane.
    ¶A graph of the linear equation y = mx + c is a straight line with slope m and y-intercept c. It is known as the slope-intercept form of the linear equation, and m and c are real numbers.
    ¶The slope, m, of a line represents its steepness. Sometimes the slope of a line is referred to as the gradient. A line's y-intercept, b, represents the y-coordinate of the point where the line's graph intersects the y-axis. Note: The y-coordinates intercepts are always (0, y) because the line whose equation needs to be determined always intersects the y-axis at x = 0.

    Write the equation in slope-intercept form of the line that passes through the points (-2, -1) and (0, -5).

    If the slope of the line is to be examined and the given point is also the
    ¶y-intercept, you can apply the slope-intercept formula, y = mx + b. (0, b). The y value of the
    ¶y-intercept point is represented by the symbol b in the formula. If we know the slope between two points on a line, we can use that information to solve for the y-intercept in the slope-intercept equation y=mx+b. Here, we'll develop an equation for the line that connects the points (-1, 6) and (5,-4)
