Question

Krish says that every scatter plot will have a cluster, gap and outlier . Is he correct ?Explain.

hintHint:

Cluster in a scatter plot is when the points are arranged tightly around the trend line. A gap is formed when the points are loosely arranged around the trend line. An outlier is a set of points that stay quite far away from the trend line.
We are asked to explain whether all scatter plots has a clutter, gap and outlier.

The correct answer is:

    Step 1 of 3:
    It is not necessary that that a scatter plot must have a cluster, for instance;

Here, the points are scattered and do not form a cluster
    Step 2 of 3:
A gap in a scatter plot is also not necessary. If the plot has points clustered together, then there would be no gaps in the graph. For instance,

Here, there is no gap around the trend line. All the points lie on the line.
    Step 3 of 3:
If is also not necessary to have an outlier on a graph. For instance,

Here, the points are on the trend line and no points are isolated.

An outlier is set the points that lie far away from the regression line. There could be no outliers in a graph or numerous outliers.

Given five noncollinear points, make a conjecture about the number of ways to connect different pairs of points.

Number of connections for 3 noncollinear points = 3
Number of connections for 4 noncollinear points = 6
Next from the figure, we get number of connections for 5 noncollinear points = 10
    So the sequence is 3, 6, 10
