The correct answer is: 10 J


    Since, work is done by the system, so it is positive. Therefore,
    increment W equals 30 J
    Heat given to the system,
    increment Q equals 40 J

    increment U equals increment Q minus increment W
    equals 43 minus 30 equals 10 blank J
