Question
A child wanted to make a toy train. He made the compartments and the engine of the train using small equally sized boxes and the wheels using cardboard cutouts. He wanted to connect the compartments using bar magnets. Which of the following pictures represent the way in which he should fix the bar magnets in order to connect the compartments?
- None of the above
Hint:
Like poles repel each other and unlike poles attract each other.
The correct answer is:
- When two magnets are placed with their like poles facing each other, the lines of force are in opposite directions and hence like poles repel each other. When the unlike poles of a bar magnet face each other the magnetic lines of force are in the same direction and hence unlike poles attract each other.
- So Option 3 is correct because we can see two opposite poles are placed towards each other so the magnates will be attracted to each other connecting the train compartments.
