Question
Solve the system of equations by elimination :
3X + 2Y = 4
3X + 6Y = - 24
Hint:
Perform any arithmetic operation and then find.
The correct answer is: We can also solve these system of equations by making the coefficients of to be the same in both the equations.
Complete step by step solution:
Let 3x + 2y = 4…(i)
and 3x + 6y = - 24…(ii)
On subtracting (i) from (ii),
we get LHS to be 3x + 6y - (3x + 2y) = 6y - 2y = 4y
and RHS to be - 24 - 4 = - 28
On equating LHS and RHS, we get 4y = - 28
⇒ y= - 7
On substituting the value of in (i), we get 3x + 2× - 7 = 4
⇒ 3x – 14 = 4
⇒ 3x = 4 + 14
⇒ 3x = 18
⇒x = 6
Hence we get and y = - 7
Note: We can also solve these system of equations by making the coefficients of
to be the same in both the equations.
Hence we get and y = - 7
Note: We can also solve these system of equations by making the coefficients of
to be the same in both the equations.
