- The letter “e” has been added to each of the second words in the list above.
- It changes the pronunciation of vowels in the word.
- According to the rule, when the letter “e” sits at the end of any word, it is usually silent.
- This is known as magic “e”.
- But the magic “e” changes the short vowel into a long vowel.

- Let’s look at some examples.

- Silent “e” is also referred to as bossy “e” sometimes.
- When it sits at the end of a word, it becomes silent and tells the other vowel in the word to pronounce itself.
- The fancy name for a magic “e” word is known as a split digraph.
- Two letters sometimes make one sound.
- When two vowels split between consonants, they together make one sound.
- We will read about the 5 vowels that make 5 split digraphs: a-e, e-e, i-e, o-e, u-e.
- We will learn about the change in vowel sound when they mix up with the magic “e” at the end.

- The sound of vowels like “a,e,i,o,u” becomes long after adding “e” at the end of the word.
- So, “e’ is the magic or silent “e” in these words
