Question

Identify the statement that best describes the increasing and decreasing of the graph.

  1. Decreasing, increasing
  2. Decreasing, increasing, decreasing
  3. Increasing, decreasing, increasing
  4. Increasing, decreasing

hintHint:

It is important to distinguish between increasing and decreasing interval  in graph. The increasing interval means equation having  the slope of the graph is always positive and decreasing interval  means the slope of the graph is negative.

The correct answer is: Increasing, decreasing, increasing

Firstly , to find the increasing and decreasing interval in graph we must look the how many increasing line are there and how many decreasing lines are there in graph.
A function is increasing where the graph gets higher as it moves towards left to right the interval.
And function is decreasing where graph gets lower as it moves towards left right over the interval.
Here we must look the How many times the graph go towards higher and lower from left to right in intervals.
In graph, We were given 3 point that is, (-3.104,0),(-2,5) and (0,1).
In interval (-3.104,0) to (-2,5), the graph is increasing , because the slope of graph is positive.
In interval (-2,5) to (0,1), the graph is decreasing , because the slope of graph is negative..
In interval after (0,1), the graph is increasing, because the slope is positive.
    graph
Therefore, the graph is first increasing ,decreasing , increasing.
The correct answer is increasing ,decreasing , increasing (option (c)).

It very easy to find the increasing and decreasing interval in graph you just have to focus on the graph where its going upward or downward or you can also find increasing and decreasing by finding the slope of the line. If the slope is positive then line is increasing otherwise slope is negative then line is decreasing.
