Question

Last night, 4 friends went out to dinner at a restaurant. They split the bill evenly. Each friend paid $12.75 for their meal, and each left the same amount for a tip, t. The total amount for all 4 was $61. What was the tip amount for one person? Choose the correct equations to describe the situation.

  1. 4t + 12.75 = 61
  2. (4t + 51)/2 = 61
  3. 4t + 5= 61
  4. 4(t + 12.75) = 61

hintHint:

In this question, 4 friends went out dinner at a restaurant and split the bills, Each paid $12.75 so we multiply it by 4 we can get the total amount and each paid same amount of tip. Total bill paid is $61. We have to find the amount of tip by one person. Here assume tip by one person is “t” and write the equation.

The correct answer is: 4(t + 12.75) = 61

Here we have to find the amount of tip by one person.
    Firstly, the given is
There friend went out dinner, each paid is $12.75 and each also give same amount of tip.
Let be assume , the tip by one person to be t, we have
The total bill paid is $61.
    Equation for total bill is,
    4t + 4x 12.75 = 61
We can take 4 as common,
    4 ( t + 12.75) = 61
And it is same as one of the our option for this situation.
    Therefore, the correct answer is 4 ( t + 12.75) = 61 .

In this question, we have to find the amount of tip by one person. We assume tip as t by one person and write the equation for a bill that given in this situation. You can write common number outside the brackets. Apply same methods to solve similar questions.
