Question
The heights of the students of grade 4 are as follows:
Albert – 3.8 feet
Patrick – 3.5 feet
John – 3.0 feet
Adam – 3.10 feet
Jacob – 3.6 feet
For the selection of students for the long jump, Selectors asked them to stand in a line according to their heights in decreasing order (the tallest being the first participant). The student standing fourth in the line would be
- Albert
- John
- Adam
- Jacob
Hint:
We will arrange the given heights in decreasing order and find the value on 4th position.
The correct answer is: Adam
GIVEN-
Heights of students-
Albert – 3.8 feet
Patrick – 3.5 feet
John – 3.0 feet
Adam – 3.10 feet
Jacob – 3.6 feet
TO FIND-
Student standing in 4th position when arranged in decreasing order of heights.
SOLUTION-
We will first arrange heights of the given students in decreasing order-
3.8, 3.6, 3.5, 3.10, 3.0.
Hence, 4th position = 3.10 feet.
Hence, when arranged in decreasing order of heights, the person on 4th position among the given set of people is Adam with a height of 3.10 feet.
FINAL ANSWER-
Option 'c' i.e. 'Adam' is the correct answer to the given question.
