Question
The score on a trivia game is obtained by subtracting the number of incorrect answers from twice the number of correct answers. If a player answered 40 questions and obtained a score of 50, how many questions did the player answer correctly?
The correct answer is: 30
HINT – Taking ‘x’ as number of correct answers and ‘y’ as number of incorrect answers, form 2 linear equations in two variable and solve
SOLUTION – Let number of correct answer = x
Number of incorrect answer = y
Total questions answered by the player = 40
x + y = 40 ---- (1)
Further, it is given that score of the game = 2 number of correct answer - number of incorrect answer
50 = 2x – y
y = 2x – 50 ---- (2)
Put value of (2) in (1)
We get, x + 2x – 50 = 40
3x = 90
x = 30
Questions answered correctly = 30
An equation is given in the form of ax + by + c=0. Here, 'a' and 'b' are real values and coefficients of x and y. Then, the equation is said to be a linear equation within the two variables. Examples of linear equations with two variables include x+4y = 3 and -x+5y = 2. Solution of a Linear Equation in 2 Variables: A pair of numbers (x, y), one for 'x' and the other for 'y,' that make the two sides of the equation equal. It is the solution of a linear equation in 2 variables. For instance, (0,4) is one of the answers if 2x + y = 4 since it satisfies the equation. A two-variable linear equation has infinite solutions.

For the function f, if f(3x) = x - 6 for all values of x, what is the value of f(6) ?
A function is defined as the relationship between a set of inputs and one output. In simple terms, it is a relationship between inputs in which each input corresponds to exactly one output. Every function has its domain and codomain, as well as a range. The general notation for a function is f(x), where x is the input. A function is represented as y = f(x).
¶Functions are the foundation of calculus in mathematics and represent the various types of relationships. A function is defined as a rule that produces a different output for each input x in mathematics. A function is denoted by mapping or transformation in mathematics.
