Question
There are two cars, car A and car B. Mass of car A is 3000 kg, travelling at 30 m/s collide with car B of mass 2000 kg travelling at 10 m/s in same direction. After collision, the velocity of car A becomes 60 m/s. Calculate the velocity of car B after the collision?
- – 35 m/s
- – 20 m/s
- 35 m/s
- 20 m/s
Hint:
Use law of conservation of momentum to find final velocity of car B after collision.
The correct answer is: – 35 m/s
Given that-
Mass of car A = 3000 Kg
Speed of the car A = 30 m/s
Mass of car B = 2000 Kg
Speed of car B = 10 m/s
Final speed of car A = 60 m/s
Let the final speed of car B = v m/s
Using the law of conservation of momentum,
(3000 x 30) + (2000 x 10) = (3000 x 60) + (2000 x v)
90,000 + 20,000 = 180000 + 2000v
-70,000 = 2000 v
v = -70000/2000 = -35 m/s
