Question
A table cover of 4 m x 2m is spread on a meeting table. If 25 cm table cover is hanging all around the table. Find the cost of polishing the table top at Rs 2.25 per sq.metre.
Hint:
Area of a rectangle = length × breadth
The correct answer is: ∴ Cost of polishing the given table top is Rs. 11.82.
Step-by-step solution:-
Polishing a table refers to covering the surface of the table with polish.
∴ To find the Cost of polishing the table, we need to find the Area of the surface of the table.
In the adjacent figure, let the inner rectangle be the table and the outer rectangle be the cover.
Length of the table = length of the cover - 2 (width of the hanging portion of the cover) = 4m - 2 (25 cm) = 4m - 2 (0.25 m) = 4m - 0.5 m = 3.5 m
Breadth of the table = Breadth of the cover - 2 (width of the hanging portion of the cover) = 2m - 2 (25 cm) = 2m - 2 (0.25m) = 2m - 0.5m = 1.5 m
.......................... (1m = 100 cm)
∴ For the table-
Length = 3.5 m
Breadth = 1.5 m
Area of the given table = length × breadth
∴ Area of the given table = 3.5 × 1.5
∴ Area of the given table = 5.25 m2 .......................................................................... (Equation i)
Cost of polishing the table top = Area of the table cost per m2
∴ Cost of polishing the table top = 5.25 × 2.25 ........................................................... (From Equation i)
∴ Cost of polishing the table top = Rs. 11.82
Final Answer:-
∴ Cost of polishing the given table top is Rs. 11.82.
