Question

Find the net force on the rope in the situation given below.

  1. 14 N towards the right
  2. 27 N towards the left
  3. 54 N towards the left
  4. 43 N towards the right

hintHint:

If two forces act on an object in the same direction, the net force is the sum of the two forces

The correct answer is: 14 N towards the right

    • Net force in left side = 72N + 59N + 43 N =  175 N towards left direction.
    • Net force in right side = 36N + 63N + 89N = 198 N towards right direction.
    • Hence, it is tug of war both the parties will be applying force opposite to each other and object will move towards the direction where force would be greater.
    • The force applied towards right direction is more.
    • Net force = - 175 N + 189 N = 14 N towards right direction.
