Question
The data in the table below represents a linear relationship. Fill in the missing data.
Represent the linear function described in the data .
Hint:
Try to find equation of the line.
The correct answer is: x = 30, Y = 25
The two given points are (10 , 10) and (20 , 15)
Using two – point form, equation of the line is
(y – y1) = m (x – x1) where m =
m =
= = 0.5
Now, equation of the line is (y – y1) = m (x – x1)
(y – 10) = 0.5 (x – 10)
y – 10 = 0.5x – 5
y = 0.5x – 5 + 10
y = 0.5x + 5
2y = x + 10
So, linear function is 2y = x + 10
First, y1 = 20 , x1 = ?
2(20) = x1 + 10
40 – 10 = x1
30 = x1
Second, x2 = 40 and y2 = ?
2y2 = 40 + 10
2y2 = 50
y2 = 25
Now, equation of the line is (y – y1) = m (x – x1)
(y – 10) = 0.5 (x – 10)
y – 10 = 0.5x – 5
y = 0.5x – 5 + 10
y = 0.5x + 5
2y = x + 10
So, linear function is 2y = x + 10
First, y1 = 20 , x1 = ?
Second, x2 = 40 and y2 = ?
