Question

Find the equivalent equation for the following.
-4x + 9y = -3

  1. -4x + 9y = -6
  2. -8x - 18y = -6
  3. -8x + 18y = 6
  4. 8x – 18y = 6

hintHint:

In this question, we have to find the equivalent equation for the following equation that is -4+ 9= -3. Equivalent equations are algebraic equation that have identical solution or roots.

The correct answer is: 8x – 18y = 6

Here we have to find the equivalent solution for the -4+ 9= -3.
Firstly , we have a equation,
    -4+ 9= -3, ----(1)
    (1) -4x + 9y = -6
Now multiply equation (1) by 1, we have
    -4+ 9= -3 so its not equivalent with -4x + 9y = -6 so this is wrong option.
    (2) 8x – 18y = 6
    Multiply the equation by -2:
    -2(-4x + 9y) = -2(-3)
    8x – 18y = 6
This equation 1 is -4+ 9= -3 is equivalent to 8x – 18y = 6 because we when we multiply equation (1) by -2 then both equation would be same.
    Therefore ,8x – 18y = 6 is correct answer .

In this question, we have to find the equivalent equation . Equivalent means equals. Equivalent equations are algebraic equation that have identical solution or roots.
