Question

Identify the INDEPENDENT variable.

  1. Distance
  2. 25
  3. Time
  4. There isn't one

hintHint:

In a given equation, the 2 variables viz. x & y can be bifurcated into Independent variable and dependent variable.

The correct answer is: Time

    TO FIND-
    Independent variable
    SOLUTION-
The independent variable can be referred to as the cause i.e. Its value is independent (does not change as per the other variables) of other variables. The dependent variable can be referred to as the effect. Its value depends on changes in the independent variable.
Generally, Independent variables are represented on the x-axis i.e. horizontal axis and Dependent variables are represented on the y-axis i.e. verticle axis.
From the given graph, we observe that time is represented on the horizontal axis and change in time is constant i.e. 1 units. However, change in distance, which is represented on the verticle axis is dependent on the x-coordinate i.e. 25 times the x-coordinate.
Hence, time is the Independent variable.
    FINAL ANSWER-
Option 'b' i.e. 'w = 50m' is the correct answer to the given question.
