Question

Larry has 14 boxes with 11 toy cars in each box. Total cars do he have?

  1. 184
  2. 154
  3. 104
  4. 604

hintHint:

In this question it is given that Larry has 14 boxes with 11 boxes in each toys . So, the total number of toys will be the product of 14 and 11. For this type of problem we will use standard algorithm multiplication. We can use distributive law to find the product of boxes and toys . Distributive law says that if several  numbers are added and then multiplied to some number will give same result as the number multiplied individually to the numbers i.e,
a left parenthesis b plus c right parenthesis space equals space a cross times b space plus space a cross times c

The correct answer is: 154

    Step by Step Solution:
    Step1:
we have to use the standard algorithm to find the multiplication so we will first break the bigger number into small numbers that can be easily multiplied to get the result . So we will divide 14 as follows :
11 space cross times 14 space equals space 11 space cross times left parenthesis 10 plus 4 right parenthesis
    Step2 :
Now we will use the distributive property to multiply this :
11 cross times left parenthesis 10 plus 4 right parenthesis space equals space left parenthesis 11 cross times 10 right parenthesis space plus space left parenthesis 11 cross times 4 right parenthesis
Step3: Now we will do simple multiplication of left parenthesis 11 cross times 10 right parenthesis space and left parenthesis 11 cross times 4 right parenthesis
left parenthesis 11 cross times 10 right parenthesis space equals space 110
left parenthesis 11 cross times 4 right parenthesis space equals space 44
Step4: Now we have to add these numbers.
left parenthesis 11 cross times 10 right parenthesis space plus space left parenthesis 11 cross times 4 right parenthesis space equals space 110 space plus 44
equals greater than space 154
So, Larry has total 154 toys in boxes
