An instrument shows the number of revolutions per minute made by each tire of a car. In each revolution, the car travels a distance equal to the circumference of one of its tires. The circumference of each tire is equal to 2πr, where r is the radius of the tire.

Maria gets new tires for her car. The radius of each of her old tires is 0.30 meter, and the radius of each of her new tires is 11% larger than the radius of one of her old tires. What is the circumference of each new tire, to the nearest tenth of a meter?

The correct answer is: 2.1


    HINT: Given that the new tire is 11% larger than the old one. From that find the radius of new tire and get the circumference.
    Complete step by step solution:
    Radius of old tire = 0.30 m
    Radius of new tire = 11% larger than the old tire, that is open parentheses 11 space cross times space fraction numerator 0.3 over denominator 100 end fraction close parentheses + 0.3 = 0.333 m
    Circumference of new tire with radius 0.333 m = 2 × π × r = 2 × π × .333 = 2.09 = 2.1 m
    Hence circumference of circle with new tire = 2.1 meters
