Question
A saltwater swimming pool requires 2 kg of salt to be added for every 10000 litres of water. Joan’s swimming pool is 1.5 metres deep, 5 metres wide and 15 metres long. How much salt will she need to add to her pool?
Hint:
Hint:
Unitary method: The unitary method is a method in which we find the value of a unit and then the value of a required number of units. For example, If 10 apples cost is 100 rupees, 1 apple will cost 10 rupees and if we are asked to find the cost of 100 apples, we can find it by multiplying 100 with the cost of 1 apple.
The correct answer is: 22.5 kg
Salt required for 10000 litres of water = 2 kg
Salt required for 1 litre of water = kg = kg
We are asked to determine the amount of salt for a swimming pool which is 1.5 metres deep, 5 metres wide and 15 metres long.
Volume of water in swimming pool = Volume of swimming pool
= Length × Breadth × Height
= 15 × 5 × 1.5 = 112.5 m3
Now 1 m3 = 1000 litres
So, Volume of water in swimming pool = 112.5 × 1000 = 112500 litres
Salt required for 112500 litres of water = 112500 = 22.5 kg
Final Answer:
Hence, Joan needs to add 22.5 kg of salt to the pool.
