Question
Solve Each system : Explain your choice of Solution method .
6X - 5Y= - 1
6X + 4Y= - 10
Hint:
HINT: Choose the correct method of solution and perform any arithmetic operation
and then find.
The correct answer is: x=-1 and y=-1
Complete step by step solution:
We can use the method of elimination of the system of equations.
Let 6x-5y=-1…(i)
and 6x+ 4y=-10….(ii)
Now, we have the coefficients of in (i) and (ii) to be the same.
On subtracting (i) from (ii),
we get LHS to be 6x+ 4y-(6x-5y)=4y-(-5y)=9y
and RHS to be -10-(-1)=-9
On equating LHS and RHS, we have 9y=-9
⇒y=-1
On substituting the value of y in (i), we get 6x-5×-1=-1
⇒6x+ 5=-1
⇒6x=-1-5
⇒6x=-6
⇒x=-1
Hence we get x=-1 and y=-1
Note: We can also solve these system of equations by making the coefficients of
to be the same in both the equations.
Hence we get x=-1 and y=-1
Note: We can also solve these system of equations by making the coefficients of
to be the same in both the equations.
