Question
The measurements in the given figure are in cm. What is its area?
Hint:
i. Area of a rectangle = length × breadth
ii. Opposite sides of a rectangle are of equal measure.
The correct answer is: Final Answer:- ∴ Area of the given figure is 210 cm2.
Step-by-step solution:-
The given figure is that of a rectangle with-
length = 6x + 9 ............................................................... (Equation i)
breadth = 2 (x + 3) & x + 8 ............................................... (Equation ii)
We know that opposite sides of a rectangle are equal
∴ breadth = 2 (x + 3) = x + 8
∴ 2 (x + 3) = x + 8
∴ 2x + 6 = x + 8
∴ 2x - x = 8 - 6
∴ x = 2 .................................................................. (Equation iii)
Substituting Equation iii in Equations i & ii, we get-
length = 6x + 9 = 6 (2) + 9 = 12 + 9 = 21 cm ......................... (Equation iv)
breadth = 2 (x + 3) = 2 (2 + 3) = 2 (5) = 10 cm ....................... (Equation v)
Area of the given rectangle = length × breadth
∴ Area of the given rectangle = 21 × 10 ............................ (From Equations iv & v)
∴ Area of the given rectangle = 210 cm2
Final Answer:-
∴ Area of the given figure is 210 cm2.
