Question
The perimeter of rectangular piece of paper is 56 cm. If the length is three times its width, what is its width?
Hint:
Perimeter of a rectangle = 2 (length + breadth)
The correct answer is: Final Answer:- ∴ Width of the given rectangle is 7 cm.
Step-by-step solution:-
Let the width of the given rectangular piece be x cm.
∴ width = x cm .......................................................................................... (Equation i)
& length = 3 × width = 3x ........................................................................... (Equation ii)
Now, Perimeter of the given rectangular piece = 2 (length + breadth)
∴ Perimeter of the given rectangular piece = 2 (3x + x) ............................ (From Equations i & ii)
∴ 56 = 2 (3x + x)
∴ 56 = 2 × 4x
∴ 56 / 2 = 4x
∴ 28 = 4x
∴ 28 / 4 = x
∴ 7 = x
Final Answer:-
∴ Width of the given rectangle is 7 cm.
