Question

2 x open parentheses x squared plus 1 close parentheses plus open parentheses 2 x squared minus 2 x close parentheses
Which of the following expressions is equivalent to the expression above?

  1. 4 x squared
  2. 2 x squared plus 2 x
  3. 2 x cubed plus 2 x squared
  4. 2 x cubed plus 2 x squared equals 4 x

hintHint:

Hint:
We are given a polynomial expression and we need to check which of the options is equal to the given expression. We use distributive law of addition over multiplication to simplify the expression and then check if it equal to one of the option given. First we take common factor wherever possible to simplify the given expression.

The correct answer is: 2 x cubed plus 2 x squared

    The given expression is
2 x open parentheses x squared plus 1 close parentheses plus open parentheses 2 x squared minus 2 x close parentheses
In the last two terms, we take  common to get
2 x open parentheses x squared plus 1 close parentheses plus 2 x left parenthesis x minus 1 right parenthesis
So, now we have two terms and both have a common factor 2x
Again, we take  2x common from the two terms above to get
    2 x open parentheses x squared plus 1 plus x minus 1 close parentheses
    Simplifying, we get,
2 x open parentheses x squared plus x close parentheses
    Thus,
    2 x open parentheses x squared plus 1 close parentheses plus open parentheses 2 x squared minus 2 x close parentheses equals 2 x cubed plus 2 x squared
Thus the correct answer is C)

    Note:
Another way of solving this problem is to expand all the terms in the expression
2 x open parentheses x squared plus 1 close parentheses plus open parentheses 2 x squared minus 2 x close parentheses
    Then we get,
    2 x cubed plus 2 x plus 2 x squared minus 2 x
    Thus, we will get that
2 x open parentheses x squared plus 1 close parentheses plus open parentheses 2 x squared minus 2 x close parentheses
    Can be written as
    2 x cubed plus 2 x squared
This also gives the same answer as above. No matter which method we use to simplify the expression, we will always get a unique answer.

Identify all pairs of congruent corresponding parts. Then write another congruence statement for the
    figures

Two polygons are considered to be congruent if the sides and angles match. When two sides or angles have the same length are considered to be congruent. We demonstrate that the angles are congruent by inserting the same slash marks through each one.
The symbol for congruence is ≅ and can be written as △ABC ≅ △DEF. ∠A is equivalent to ∠D, ∠B to ∠E, and ∠C to ∠F. Side AB corresponds to DE, BC to EF, and AC to DF.
Two triangles are formed with three sides that are congruent. Triangles are congruent if all three pairs of corresponding sides are congruent.
